Chachin Peter Pavlovich
born 11.06.1945 Moscow
Permanent member of the Virtual Computer Museum's scientific council,
supervisor of the museum's section “History of Electrical Communications”,
author of some museum's historical and biographic materials.
P.P. Chachin is a scientific editor of the weekly PC Week/Russian Edition.
In 1967 he graduated from the faculty of radio at the Moscow Electrotechnical Institute of Communications. After that he worked as a research engineer at the Central Scientific Research Radiotechnical Institute – CSRRI (named after Axel Berg), where he was engaged in development of special for satellite and ground support instrumentation and equipment.
At the institute Chachin started his scientific career and was elected as the vice chairman of the Council of young engineers.
From 1970 till 1972 he served at the Soviet Army as an officer.
From 1973 till 1975 continued work at the CSRRI, participated in testing of the institute's new products at the serial manufacturing enterprises.
In 1975 he changed for the position of chief engineer at the Scientific Research Institute of Economy and Complex Problems of Communications “ECOS” (ECPC) which belonged to the USSR Ministry of Communication Means. P.P. Chachin headed and actively participated in scientific researches and design projects, was engaged in planning and forming policy for the scientific and technological development of the ministerial communication technology branch. He was promoted to the chief of department position and finally to the institute's leading specialist.
Awarded the honourable title “Honorable Radio Master of the Russian Federation”.
Already in the 1970s he also joined the work on popularization (and propagation) of the national achievements in the telecommunications and computer engineering. He was engaged in forming the ideology and organization of the Soviet expositions at the international exhibitions “Communications” (in Moscow), of the soviet section at the World Exhibitions Telecom in Geneva (Sw.) and of the permanent exhibition of the USSR Ministry of Communication Means. He was also the author of the Moscow Television Institute's museum exposition.
Beside that he was often invited as a scientific consulter, an expert and a script-writer for scientific films, videos, slide-films and also for scientific TV broadcast.
In 1970s Chachin also made his first publications as a scientific journalist.
In the 1990s began active work with some periodicals, cooperated with the weekly Computer World-Moscow, where he authored more than 50 publications, with the journal “Telecommunications and Informatics”, and some others.
Since 1996 he is the scientific editor at the PC Week/RE. He published there more than 2000 articles.
P.P. Chachin is a member of the Russian Union of Journalists and also a member of the International Federation of Journalists – IFJ.
